Blue is the story of Julie who loses her husband, an acclaimed European composer and her young daughter in a car accident. Despite her intentions, people from her former and present life intrude with their own needs. However, the reality created by the people who need and care about her, a surprising discovery and the music around which the film revolves heals Julie and irresistably draws her back to the land of the living.

Two women have the bad luck to fall for Yuddy. One is a quiet lass named Su Lizhen who works at a sports arena, while the other is a glitzy showgirl named Mimi. Perhaps due to his unresolved edipal issues, he passively lets the two compete for him, unable or unwilling to make a choice. 重慶森林(1994)
Chungking Express

Wong Kar-Wai's movie about two love-struck cops is filmed in impressionistic splashes of motion and color. The first half deals with Cop 223, who has broken up with his girlfriend of five years. He purchases a tin of pineapples with an expiration date of May 1 each day for a month. By the end of that time, he feels that he will either be rejoined with his love or that it too will have expired forever. The second half shows Cop 663 dealing with his breakup with his flight attendant girlfriend. He talks to his apartment furnishings until he meets a new girl at a local lunch counter.

Hmm. I thought you would choose these movies. ^_^ Didn't expect you to like Magnolia and High Fidelity enough to put them on top 10 though. Or Pride & Prejudice for that matter.

They are cntainly high on my list. Sometimes I am amazed at the sheer number of movies I have seen! ^_^

The list is always changing from 6th to 10th, depending on my mood. But I saw P&P just recently and got totally hooked up with the whole Darcy/Firth fuss , what an ultmiate chick flick (sigh!)

And John Cusack & Jack Black are simply hilarious in High Fidelity. And such a witty script! (the credit goes to the book of course)

And for Magnolia, so many unforgettable scenes...

Honorable Mentions
English Patient
Cold Mountain
Spirited Away
Grave of the Fireflies
A Room with a View
Forrest Gump (Note: Can't figure out why so many classic movies made in same year - 1994)
Kill Bill II

since you mentioned John Cusack, I remeber one of his movies: "Serendipity", which really strucks me as how simmiliar it is to Murakami Haruki's "On seeing the 100% perfect girl one beautiful April morning". Yet of course it's been Hollywoodized.

I haven't seen these:

Tokyo Story (1953)
Eternity and A Day (1998)
Double vie de Véronique, La (1991)
"Dekalog" (1989) (mini)

will give them a shot if I find them.

The other ones you like are highly enjoyable except Spirited Away. It's average at best. just my opinion. ^_^
